Welcome to our Event Web Site

The Walter Evans Memorial Sickle Cell Golf Tournament is on Labor Day weekend every year. The late Walter Evans founded the two-day tournament in 1973 as a way to raise money for and educate about the Mid South community about sickle cell anemia. After Evans died in 1984, the tournament continued and is now hosted by the Pro Duffers South, a predominantly African American golfers’ organization. Presently, proceeds from the tournament support the comprehensive programs of the Sickle Cell Foundation of Tennessee.

The Pro Duffers South is part of a national organization of predominantly African American golfers called Pro Duffers USA. This year is the 39th annual event tournament will be held at The Links at Cottonwoods Golf Course in Tunica, Mississippi on September 3-4, 2011. The tournament was divided into five flights (Senior,Third, Second, First, and Championship) based on the age and skill levels of the players.
