~Saving the Heart and Health of a Child~ Turning our Loss into a Force for Good~

Dear Friends:

Did you know that one in every 100 babies born has a heart defect? Unfortunately, we know this firsthand as we lost our 12-year-old son and brother thirteen years ago to a heart ailment. This is why we have been, for nine years, 100% committed to Texas Children’s Heart Center – to ensure a future for children diagnosed with heart disease.

The Higgins’ family invites you to join us as we commemorate the life and memory of our son and brother, Nicholas Alexander Higgins, at the 10th Annual Nicholas Alexander Higgins Memorial Golf Tournament on Saturday, September 20, 2008 at Wildcat Golf Club. This year will mark the 15th anniversary of Nicholas' death at age 12 from a heart defect.

Last year our friends, families, and colleagues joined us to raise funds for Texas Children’s Heart (“TCH”)Center. This year, and for our 10th anniversary, we will raise funds for heart and health care for TCH’s Heart Center, Adult Congenital Heart Clinic (TACH) through Baylor College of Medicine (“Baylor”), and healthcare for homeless children through Covenant House. Fully 80% of the money raised will go to the three aforementioned entities

Proceeds from the tournament support pediatric cardiology and charity care for patients at the Heart Center and research at Texas Children's Hospital, including a summer fellowship program for minority pre-medical students from the Houston area through TCH and Baylor. Healthcare for homeless children through Covenant House is an added, and critical, component. Each of our fellowship students publishes a scholarly research paper in the medical literature as part of their summer experience in the department. This year, our goal is to raise $100,000. With your support –we can do it!

We thank you from the bottom of our hearts for helping many little hearts! Our collective efforts are “Saving the Heart and Health of a Child”!

 Sincerely,

Junior Higgins                Pauline Higgins             Nathaniel Higgins
