The Down Syndrome Association of Virginia Peninsula (DSAVP) provides support, information and advocacy for individuals with Down syndrome, their families and the greater community. A person with Down syndrome has an extra 21st chromosome.
People with Down syndrome have a wide variety of strengths and weaknesses. Most individuals with Down syndrome have mild to moderate cognitive challenges, yet with the right support they are able to participate in the community in schools, jobs, and meaningful relationships.
The DSAVP brings support to families with new babies through hospital outreach, delivering informative books for parents and siblings. Monthly play meetings provide the opportunity for families to connect and learn from one another. Enrichment activities include trips to the zoo, pumpkin patch and swimming time. DSAVP is also working very hard to bring a much needed literacy learning program to the area.
Advanced training seminars for local Speech Therapists are offered to help individuals with Down syndrome improve feeding and speaking.
As a new but developing non-profit group, We hope that you will participate, donate and or promote our event, you make us successful in our mission!
